G'day friends,

Another Xmas-New Year season is upon us and we've been busy providing you with holiday reading and viewing. Also, it's your last chance to get some MiLite screw-in tent pegs before Xmas!

We've done plenty of product testing, but one vehicle we reported on but were unable to test is the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. Our 80,000 monthly visitor tally isn't a sufficient 'business case' for 'Benz! Hopefully, we'll have more luck getting a test of the forthcoming X-Class ute (a tricked up Nissan Navara), but we doubt it.

We've reported on the face-lifted 2018 Toyota Prado and re-engineered Jeep Wrangler, and attended an excellent launch program for the new Hino 300 Series 4x4 light truck range. Incidentally, we've moved Working 4WDs into a new Heavy Duty section in the Buyers Guide.

Our light testing continues, with video of new Narva LED headlight replacement globes and two LED driving light sizes from Livid Lighting: Hyperdrive Mk2s and Xplorers.

Falken's Wildpeak tyre testing is ongoing, as is successful testing of ARB's compact tyre pressure monitoring system.

On the comms front we're reported on ToooAir's greatly enhanced two-way radio system and, at last, an affordable Outback TV system.

On-board water tank 'taste' is a problem for many outback travellers and we think we've found the principal cause.

There has been some nasty and defamatory social media comment on our 'old fashioned' snatch strap procedure, so we've done an updated video with 4WD Off Road Driver Training that explains why we professionals do it this way.

Lastly, we checked out the new Toughpower power box that ticks all the boxes.

Merry Xmas, Happy New Year and safe holiday travels, from Allan Whiting and the OTA Team.

(Maybe we'll see you at the February 3-4 4Wheel Drive Spectacular in Queanbeyan.)
