4WD VEHICLE FAMILIARISATION AND SAFE OPERATION FOR OFF ROAD USE

Courses for the General Public are offered in 3 levels;

4WD Off Road Driver TrainingLevel 1 is for those that want to learn the correct and safe techniques of how to take their vehicle off road and to also see what their vehicle is capable of. This is not an accredited course but you’ll still learn all there is to know without the complication & hassle of having to do both a written and oral assessment.

The course driving content is literally the same as the accredited courses but you don’t have to sit through a theory session on how to prepare for an outdoor activity. This means that there is more time for ‘hands on driving’. Learn how to enjoy your 4WD without the formality.

During the course you’ll learn;

  • Correct gear/ratio selection
  • Tyres & tyre pressures for both on & Off road driving
  • Steep hill ascent & descent
  • Stall recovery/key start procedures
  • Rock, water & sand obstacles
  • Minimal environmental impact
  • Wheel travel/articulation
  • Basic vehicle recovery

At the end of the course your practical knowledge and skill level will have vastly improved, giving you more confidence in the future when you decide to venture off road. You'll receive a certificate of completion to hang in pride and place where everyone can see it!

Course duration – 1 day

Level 2 course is designed to enhance your current off road driving skills by presenting obstacles that are more demanding on both driver and vehicle. To attend this training session you must have completed our Level 1 or equivalent course.

The obstacles that you will be attempting include steeper hills with deeper washouts testing the vehicles wheel articulation. It’s also a good chance to test any suspension enhancements and/or traction aids that are either factory fitted or after market fitment. These include either air lockers or ‘soft lockers’.

We also take you through some very rocky sections and try to include mud (depending on weather).

And just to make even more interesting we get you to reverse up the hills, using your mirrors.

We still have the same attitude…’have some fun with a sense of humour’…while you’re learning!

Course duration – 1 day

The Level 3 course has been designed for those that have a vehicle mounted electric winch or will carry a hand winch when they decide to venture off road. The course also covers other forms of safe recovery techniques including;

  • Identification & maintenance of ALL recovery equipment
  • How to operate in a safe & environmentally friendly manner
  • How to safely recover a bogged/stranded 4WD vehicle using single & multiple snatch straps up a steep incline
  • How to safely recover a bogged/stranded 4WD vehicle using vehicle jack/s to recover a vehicle
  • How to safely recovery a bogged/stranded 4WDvehicle using a hand winch
  • How to safely recovery a bogged/stranded 4WD vehicle using a vehicle mounted electric winch
  • Review 4WD systems

If you don’t have any recovery gear…don’t worry we’ll provide everything. This may also help you decide exactly what type and how much recovery gear you actually need!

Course duration – 1 day
