LIVID LIGHTING XPLORER

This compact pair delivered better than expected lighting

This compact LED driving light is very well made, from cast aluminium and with a stainless steel U-bracket. It delivers a very useful spread and spot beam from a package that should fit to almost all vehicles.

Adjustment is done by twin cap screws on each side, making a rigid assembly that didn’t vibrate on rough roads.

Claimed waterproofing is to IP69 standard and the connector is a Deutsch type.

Xplorer is a compact version of the company’s 230mm Hyperdrive Mk2 light, using six 10W Cree XM-L2 LEDs, instead of the larger light’s eight LEDs. It also lacks the lens power that the larger light has, but there’s still plenty of illumination for most 4x4 users, with 6000K colour temperature and claimed 5495 effective lumens.

Distance was more than acceptable for lights of this size and spread was OK, too.

Livid Lighting claims one lux output at 750m for the Xplorer, but our testing showed very useful light out to around 500 metres, with the ability to pick up reflectors beyond that distance.

At around $445 per light the Xplorer looks expensive, but if space is at a premium this compact light has very good output.
