SLIDE-ON CAMPERS

TONG METAL SLIDE ON CAMPERS

These Queensland-made campers allow DIY finishing off

Most slide-on campers are fully finished, but this Aussie company has seen the market need for structurally complete units that buyers can finish off to suit their individual needs.

Tong Metal is well known for its working ute canopies and service bodies, but the company also makes a range of purpose-designed slide-on campers.

The standard camper is supplied as a bare unit, with all the hard work has been completed and is ready to be fitted out. However, there's a number of optional features that can also be supplied if required.

Standard in all Tong campers is two-millimetre 5052 marine grade plate construction with a lifetime structural warranty. Also standard are integrated stairs on the rear fold-down door; a jacking system for slide on and off, with three point locking; two sealed side doors with dual gutters; internal, lockable sliding mosquito mesh door with canvas curtain; bed platform that accommodates a queen-size mattress (optional); marine plywood flooring, covered with marine carpet.

Innovative curved design, exclusive to Tong’s TTC slide-on camper, improves access without compromising the benefits of a lightweight, compact and aerodynamic profile. The signature curve increases head room over the rear entry door, allowing entry and exit without having to bend.

The TTH Camper is the middle model in the Tong range and its tapered design makes it slightly higher at the rear of the camper. This creates a taller rear door for improved access when compared with the lower profile TTL design.

This model remains compact and lightweight and setup is very quick. This design is the most popular in the Tong range.

The TTL Camper is lowest-profile model in the Tong range, with an overall height of 1260mm. This model is the choice of Tong owners who have height limits in their garages or carports.

The TTL design is also the lightest model in the range, starting from 200kg. There are some compromises with the TTL design and the rear door is shorter, making access slightly more restrictive.

The TTL-2 Camper is taller than the TTL model, with an overall height of 1400mm. This additional height creates a more spacious rear door, with improved access over the TTL model.

The taller height of the TTL-2 camper also creates more internal storage capacity and larger side opening doors.

This model is ideal for customers with vehicles having headboards taller than 950mm,  or who wish to have a roof rack on the cabin, underneath the over-cab extension of the camper. The TTL-2 design has a headboard clearance of 1075mm.,

This model is a popular choice for Toyota LandCruiser tray-backs that often have a headboard height of 1050mm.

Pricing for the Tong slide-on camper range is in the $9100-$18,000 bracket.
